5 Common Apple Watch Problem

THERE ARE MANY TYPES OF WATCHES ON THE MARKET, AND ONE OF THEM IS SMARTWATCHES. THE FIRST SMARTWATCH, RUPUTER, WAS LAUNCHED BY SEIKO IN JUNE 1998. SUBSEQUENTLY, THOSE BRANDS THAT HAVE THEIR OWN MODELS OF TOUCH-SCREEN PHONES STARTED TO MANUFACTURE THEIR OWN SMARTWATCHES TOO. SAMSUNG LAUNCHED THEIR SMARTWATCH IN 2013; AND APPLE IN 2015.

Thanks to the advancement of technology, we now have watches that can tell us more than the time. However, it comes along with several problems (and common solutions) too. Read on to find out the quick fixes to the common problems found in Apple watches.

  • Disconnected from iPhone
  • Connecting the Apple watch to the iPhone allows the user to enjoy all of the features available on the phone. Despite that, it is a common problem for the Apple watch to get disconnected to the phone.
  • Solution: Switch on Airplane mode on the watch to disconnect it entirely. Turn it off after a few seconds to reconnect the watch to the phone through Bluetooth. If this doesn’t work, turn off the Bluetooth on your phone and turn it on again after a few seconds. This should reconnect the two Apple devices.
  • Showing read messages as unread
  • If your watch shows that the message is unread even after you have read the message through your iPhone, it could be a synchronization error.
  • Solution: To fix this, switch off both the watch and the phone to reset the synchronization log. In the event where this does not work, unpair the two devices and re-pair them again.
  • Unresponsive watch
  • It is a typical sight to see an old device crashing or being unresponsive after a period of usage, and this applies to the Apple watch as well.
  • Solution: When the screen becomes unresponsive, you can do a force restart on your Apple watch. This can be done by pressing down both the side button and the Digital Crown for at least 10 seconds. Release the buttons after the screen lights up with the Apple logo. Always make sure that the watch is up to date as well.
  • Watch is not tracking activity
  • If you are using the Apple watch regularly for health reasons, an important function of the watch is the activity tracking. It allows the user to track exercise minutes, walking distance, sleeping hours, and more.
  • Solution: Ensure that the watch is not too loose while it’s on your watch. Recalibrate the watch through the Watch app on the iPhone (My Watch à Privacy à Motion & Fitness à Reset Calibration Data).
  • Not able to charge the watch
  • According to Apple, it will only take around 1.5 hours to charge an Apple watch to 80% when the battery is fully drained. However, it can get frustrating when you see that the watch is not charging at all despite multiple attempts!
  • Solution: Be sure to use the original magnetic charging cable and USB power adapter that came along with the purchase of the watch. The contact surface between the Apple watch and magnetic charger has to be clean.
  • Try to plug the cable into a different source, such as a laptop, to determine if the problem lies with the adapter. If the watch is still unable to charge, switch to another cable to find out if the cable is faulty.
  • If that does not work, do a force reset (while the watch is not charging) on the watch by pressing down the Digital Crown and side button for 10 seconds. Release after the Apple logo shows up on the screen.
  • The last resort would be to contact Apple for a solution or replacement.
